We put try the ZontesV-310, a naked relatively new to the A2 market. A once very populated subsegment, but with the popularization of retro it had shrunk until it had very few models, and most based on the limitation of class A models.
The fact is that this Zontes breaks into the intermediate card market and, both for its behavior and equipment as well as for its low price, becomes the spearhead of this category.
It may not ring a bell yet Zontes, a brand that has been in our market for a very short time, but in that little more than a year with models for sale in Spain, has had enough time to demonstrate that these are sets as cheap as they are complete and, above all, reliable.
And it is that the business group that builds them in China is Tayo Motorcycle, a manufacturer of high-tech models capable of producing 80% of the components of each one of them, something really unusual in the world we live in.
That way you can afford to include levers or footrests like the ones we are used to seeing in customizations, or a host of electronic gadgets.
In the case of V-310, the little big custom that we tested today is a rare bird for several reasons. The first is that there are few motorcycles of its style left on the market, there is very little custom / cruiser A2 that does not consist of the limited version of a free power model (like the Harley-Davidson Street 750, the Indian Scout or the Kawasaki Vulcan S, for example).
And all of them are much more expensive models than this Zontes, obviously. But that this has a price so tight as the one he has is even more shocking when you approach him, you see that he is not a fake motorcycle and that not only it is well finished and with a solid construction, but also has surprising details and an excellent level of equipment.
With good rhythm
The launch for the press of this little gem took place at the Ace Café Barcelona, from where we left the city and set off by fast track towards the Penedès and Garraf, regions where we would go to travel twisted roads of all kinds, with asphalt between the flawless and the infamous, so that we could know exactly what the behavior of the V-310 would be, use it as you use it.
Before that, we were able to verify that the seat is located very low, just 720 mm from the ground and that, furthermore, is very narrow in the front half, in the contact area of the legs with the tank.
Everything falls into place, and the surprise comes in the form of footpegs with three possible anchors, adjustable pedals and levers in distance to the fist (of excellent definition), and a handlebar wide but not excessive, which also can adjust its degree of inclination.
You have to become familiar with as much button as we find in the pineapples –by the way, backlit–, since there is much in them: from power modes (normal or Eco) until tank hatch opening.
You can also remotely adjust any of your parameters. multifunction TFT display, A luxury. And always with the key in your pocket, since the remote is remote.
But leaving aside its careful appearance and equipment, what is truly important on a motorcycle is how does it work, and this Zontes has shown us to be very balanced on that issue.
The single cylinder engine is very smooth, it doesn’t vibrate too much, and it stretches with a lot of linearity. The best of himself gives it from 6,000 rpm, and in its intermediate relations of change (from second to fifth) it does not show jumps in its staggering.
The slipper clutch, in strong reductions, it combines well with the brakes, which although they do not have a sporty bite, are suitable for a motorcycle style that does not seek sportiness, but a friendly and efficient touch in all possible conditions.
The chassis, which also acts as an engine oil tank (the single cylinder uses the semi-dry sump system to avoid stealing power with the crankshaft pounding when it hits the lubricant), it is well tuned, so that it does not require a driving style concrete (something that is usually a common evil of the long & low cruiser models).
Perhaps one of the tricks for this, apart from a few firm suspensions and a good weight distribution is that a fairly tight battle has been achieved.
The fact is that, if you have the A2 and you like the custom style, we invite you to go and contemplate it closely without prejudice, because it is a model that, if it didn’t wear logos, it would go perfectly for a daring realization of any more renowned brand than Zontes.
