The moment of truth

The main event returned to the short circuit for a tough 30 minute plus one lap battle. Haaker took the lead at the start, but succumbed to one of the most challenging obstacles of the course. A slip that Webb took advantage of to put land between him and Roman and Young, and not far away, Haaker and Lettenbichler, 20 seconds apart. The top five places stayed the same for several laps with Roman and especially Lettenbichler closing in on Webb. Halfway through the test, Roman began to lose steam and Lettenbichler did not hesitate to snatch second place from him on the fifth lap of seven.

Webb broke his foot at Erzberg in June, so he had limited preparation for the 2018 TKO: “I was worried, especially with all the competition coming from Europe,” Webb said. “Some of the biggest Hard Enduro players came here and I only had eight days to prepare after my injury, so I’m happy to get another win. But I still felt like I was going to die out there.”

Lettenbichler, the twenty-year-old German who is starring in a great season, including podiums at Erzberg and Romaniacs, was impressive on his first visit to TKO. “It was a great event, I really enjoyed it. The main test was very tough because of the slippery rocks, it is not like that in Germany,” said Lettenbichler. “I’m proud of second place and passed Mario with a few laps to go, so I’m excited about it.”

Roman finished third in the TKO for the second year in a row. “I came here more prepared because last year I suffered a lot, so I took it more seriously,” Roman said. “I have to thank Sherco USA and the friends I met last year for helping me with this event.”
