The Figueres firm will manufacture the 250 and 300 cc enduro with 2-stroke engines, following the agreement reached with the Torrot group, current owner of Gas Gas, of which KTM acquired 60% of the shares from the group last year. Torrot. With this, the Gas Gas puzzle already involves four different names: Gas Gas itself, Torrot, KTM and now Rieju.
The brand founded by Riera and Juanola has acquired, specifically, the intellectual and industrial property of the EC enduro platform.
Rieju will manufacture these Gas Gas models in its own factory, thus accessing a greater displacement, since until now its ceiling was 125 cc
The sale of the new enduro Rieju will begin next June.
Rieju has an annual production of 12,000 motorcycles, of which approximately 85% is exported. With this acquisition he plans to increase these figures considerably and reach other markets:
“This agreement allows Rieju an immediate presence in the offroad segment with larger displacements than usual for Rieju, as well as a significant expansion of our client portfolio, especially with the opening of new markets”Jordi Riera, general director of Rieju, has said of this agreement.
“We are very excited for this new adventure and the enormous challenge that it entails. We have enormous experience in our territory, so we are convinced that this project will be a success for our company ”.
Gas Gas will continue to manufacture its trial bikes in Girona, although this past Dakar we also saw Laia Sanz riding a KTM in Gas Gas colors, and also the 6-time enduro world champion, Taddy Blazusiak, will do so under the colors of the Catalan brand.
