Dedicating yourself to customizing motorcycles is a very exciting job, but it requires an arsenal of technical and mechanical skills as well as expertise, patience and an obsession for detail.
Kurt walter, Brand Design Director Icon 1,000 he’s one of those guys that fits the bill. Walter designs and leads an entire team that customizes motorcycles with a totally irreverent style that characterizes his work.
Now they present their latest creation, a BMW R90 / 6 from the mid-70s that shows a subtle military tone.
Walter got it in Portland, after a long search.
Naming it did not take them long, as they quickly decided to call the BMW: SLOW BURN A BMW R90 / 6 BY ICON 1000
Walter, who likes to take a challenge, decided to make major modifications to the frame, with a larger chassis and a modified spine.
Although the gas tank is stock, it has some modifications that improve its performance.
The R90 / 6 has a nice purr out of the box, so it’s only been moved to a custom exhaust. It’s a 2-in-1-in 2 setup that ends with Shorty mufflers from a Honda CRF450. A padded seat Ginger that cushions the ride.
The rear suspension is now a mono shock courtesy of Progressive, adapted to Dakar styling. The rear cargo frame is almost as clean – it’s actually a modified Ninja 300 subframe. “Big enough.
