Next year, the Dakar will start a new stage that will lead you to discover the Middle East and the 30th country, Saudi Arabia, since he began his adventures 42 years ago passing through Africa and South America.

Being a great unknown to all of us, the organization has posted on its social networks an image of the Dakar route 2020, and shows us in this video the spectacular landscapes that will accompany the pilots and crew throughout the next edition, to be held from January 5 to 17.

The Saudi territory, flanked by west by the Red Sea and east by the Persian Gulf, offers a very varied terrain that will force the pilots to apply themselves thoroughly in terms of navigation and will put their physical resistance to the test.

At the beginning of the test, adventure and exploration will play a very important role in mostly uninhabited regions. There, the pilots will not have the slightest reference.

Dakar Tour 2020, from Jeddah to Al-Qiddiya

The mountainous areas, near the border with Jordan, will immerse the 2020 Dakar hopefuls in labyrinthine valleys, while the dunes of Rub al-Khali (the ‘Empty Place’), which could reach 250 meters high, will provide the opportunity to show off to the specialists of the arena.

At the moment, we still know little about the route, but we do know that the 2020 Dakar start will take place in Jeddah, to carry out a tour of more than 9000 kilometers.

There will also be a rest day in the capital Riyadh before the final goal, in the future Al-Qiddiya complex.

It was in that complex where the Press conference, which has confirmed that the Dakar will be divided into 12 stages, and that it was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki AlFaisal Al Saud Y His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Sultan Abdullah Al Faisal.

Of course, special guests such as Laia Sanz, Stéphane and Andréa Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz, Giniel de Villiers, Nani Roma, Adrien van Beveren, Joan Barreda, Sam Sunderland and the saudi Yazeed Al-Rahji.

In the presentation, the pilot Laia Sanz acknowledged that “it is shocking to go for a run in a country where women have been able to drive for just a year. It is true that we are going with many unknowns but I think that the country could do well if the Dakar is held there. The fact of that women participate in a race as tough as this, in a world of men that is so difficult to reach, can help open minds since they see that women can also“.

While we wait for more information to be confirmed, we leave you with this impressive video of the landscapes of the Dakar 2020. It is simply awesome.
