The 2020 Piaggio Medley 125 is the Pontedera manufacturer’s main bet for the competitive 16 ”segment, the popular ‘high wheels’, where it has to fight copper with the king of the sector, the Honda Scoopy 125, and another good opponent, the Kymco People 125 S, among others.
However, the Medley does not seem to feel intimidated, because it knows well armed, and even more so in this 2020 version (which is also manufactured in 150 cc).
Further improving the good finishes of the previous version and its excellent equipment, this Medley 2020 brings with it interesting news.
Equipped, fully equipped …
Go ahead that the new Piaggio is offered in two versions, the already known and a new one, the Sport, with exclusive colors (white, gray, matte black) and more sporty details, such as wheels, fenders, and black carrier. red details (on rims, front trim, shield, seat stitching and shock absorbers). The front disc of the S is lobed, but not that of the standard Medley.
Both have a new design and improved ergonomics, with new handlebars and a more comfortable seat. The instrumentation is also new, digital and very complete, with details such as on-board computer, rev counter, ambient temperature, averages, consumption, etc. Perhaps the only thing that can be reproached for is precisely so much information together, somewhat crammed.
This information can be expanded with the Piaggio Mia app (see box), standard on the Sport version and optional on the classic Medley. The lighting is totally new, Full LED, very efficient.
The engine is the new Piaggio i-get, with the revised combustion chamber, as well as the larger diameter injector, the more efficient exhaust and the larger volume air filter box. With all this, it achieves a good power of 15 HP at 9,000 rpm and a very tight consumption, thanks also to the automatic stop and start system (Start & Stop) that stops the propeller at stops of between 1 and 5 seconds, starting instantly when giving gas.
This engine only needs to replace the lubricants and filters every 10,000 km and adjust the valve clearance every 20,000 km, lengthening the service intervals.
Another good detail about this scooter is that it has a central and side stand as standard.
A good citizen
While running, the new exhaust (Euro4, Euro5 Ready) emits less noise, despite being more efficient, and with a new, more efficient transmission, accelerations are constant and fast.
The automatic stop system works perfectly in the city, and contributes to reducing consumption and emissions. Once the engine stops, just by turning on the gas it starts instantly.
In the city it is agile, but when it comes to maneuvering those who are not very tall will have it a little more difficult due to their seat height. It is the toll to pay for such a spacious chest …
Although the suspensions have been revised to achieve greater comfort, that does not mean that they have become soft, impairing stability. In fact, the new settings better absorb irregularities, without bouncing, and together with the solid chassis they achieve very high stability.
The 16 ”front wheel has a firm footing and the new, wider rear tire (110-120) offers good grip, even on the wet Genoa coastal roads we drove on in the test.
It should also be noted that with wet ground the new generation ABS works perfectly and does not intervene unless we squeeze the levers with great force in the wet.
On the road, a little more aerodynamic protection is missing, a solvable issue with the optional screen, although logically this scooter will spend most of its visa moving through the city center.
In short, this new Piaggio Medley 125 2020 is a very well finished and equipped scooter, with an enormous load capacity, agile and stable, and with a brilliant and efficient engine. A serious rival in category 16 ”.
